44 PIMENTEL

As i take a look in the days that passed by...

March 28, 2010 - my birthday

My memory brought me back to Naga City, enjoying the rally and the speeches of my co-candidates , plus all the merriment that the Woowowie group provided. While we were  busy delivering our speeches, my mobile phone was also busy ringing and alerting me of the messages that kept coming in, my friends, supporters and people who remembered me on my birthday, sending me greetings of happiness and love on my day. Although I was away from my family, the warmth of the people in Naga City made me feel right at home.

On the way home,  I realized that from March 28 to May 10 is exactly 44 days…. 44 days to go before election day. 44 days till we shade the number 44 on our ballots. Number 44 po  sa balota --- PIMENTEL…

May 2, 2010 - at ABS-CBN's "Harapan"

The ABS- CBN Harapan was truly an experience for me. It is a TV debate with a different format. Supporters from the different candidates were invited to be part of the show. As expected, supporters from each camp would cheer their candidates. Official bloggers were also allowed to be part of the show. My official bloggers were my husband Luigi and my brother Koko Pimentel. Because the format of the show encourages the supporters to be in the same room as their candidates, the La Consolacion College Auditorium where the debate was held was quite tensed. When emotions are truly charged we don’t know what to expect.

I am so happy that the topic given to me was about local governance, a topic that is so close to my heart. Being the Chief of Staff of my Tatay, Senator Nene Pimentel, I was able to work with him on the amendments on the Local Government Code. The Local Code as you may well know empowers local government units, including the barangays, enabling them to take charge of their respective territories. The Local Government Code is the single most important legislation to date that empowers our people.

Local Governance is important as it affects our daily lives. It affects our interaction with our neighbors, the security of our abode, the neighborhood where our children play.

If elected to be a senator, I would continue the legacy of my father. I would strengthen the powers of our local governments and make them more independent from the national government. Empowering our people through the local government units, is, I think the answer to the nagging problem of poverty and criminality.

I would like to thank you for believing in me. Salamat, Pilipinas! God Bless!
